Some improvement in the weather for Round 2 was a welcome surprise and once again the club continued on with it's theme of positive cricket. Unfortunately for the B Grade side they had a bye. However this allowed both the Premier Grade and D Grade teams to field strong sides. The results proved this to be true, with both Premier Grade and D Grade winning their games. The first real test for the club will be in Round 3 when we have to field 3 teams....... Premier Grade V's Willy Congs - Home Match Report Well to Round 2 of a new season and Premier Grade continued their progress forward. Having lost the toss we were sent into the field against a weakened Willy Congs side. Still with Leachy and a returning Andrew Charles in their side they were always going to be dangerous. Leachy opened the innings and was on top of us early, hitting the ball hard and long to establish an early command for Congs. It was very hard going for us with many balls racing to the boundary. But we kept our heads and fought back very well by pegging back for a while, which allowed us to grab 4 wickets before the drinks break. Still they were 4 for 70 odd and Leachy was still at the crease. Ross Patterson in only his second game bowled beautifully during the whole session and was the only bowler not to cop stick. Into the next session and we clawed our way on top of them with some good bowling from all of the bowlers. Although there was the odd boundary we really were getting on top thanks to the efforts of Daniel Jenkins and John Conte. However one of their tailenders came out and spanked us around. With leachy still there the score mounted to 115 and looked to be headed to 150ish. Unfortunately for Congs, Leachy skied one to deep point and Joe Polzella had to run in and stretch out to take a great one handed catch to dismiss Mr Leach with a few overs to go. The last couple went cheaply and they were all out for 123. A reasonable score all the same. Our turn to bat and Robbo and Jac headed out to the centre. They opened with Leachy bowling little outswingers and off spinners, which was an interesting change. But from early on in the innings the left hander at the other end tried to bowl short to Robbo (bad move). Crash bang wallop and we are none for 40 odd in no time with Robbo hitting some long balls for six. This continued on for some time. When Robbo was 50 Jac was about 10, but eventually Robbo got out on 67 and we were 1/88, a good start and Jac was still there. Jinx came out and was nervous early. Both he and Jac tried to continue on wiith the positive cricket theme, but Jac was caught by a great catch at short backward square, trying to force the pace, Jac out for 20. From there Cambo strode to the crease and was caught and bowled for not a lot. Joe Polzella was out there next and with him and Jinx togther the run rate dropped to a crawl. As the overs ticked by we became more and more concerned that we would in fact come out of this game with a loss, but with just under two overs to go, Jinx got us home with a well timed 4 to long on. He finished with 22 no and put his hand up by also bolwing reasonably well to grab a couple of wickets. So 2 from 2 for Premier Grade, and a great start to the year for the club, but there is such a long, long way to go.
