Gordon is credited with changing the attitude of the club in ragards to playing A Grade. Gordon was Captain of the A Grade team in 1981/82. That team did not win a single game that season.

The following season he Captained again, but this time he was determined to be successful. A new attitude, with only an A Grade flag as an acceptable result. He demanded discipline of the talented group, which in previous years had lacked, just that.

History now shows that the team went on to win the Premiership, thanks largely to Gordons input and determination for success. Being the Captain of the first ever A Grade premiership, will always make a hero of you, but to have come from wooden spoon (without a win) to premiers in 12 months is an achievement to be very proud of.

Gordon was a solid RH opening Batsmen and Doug Walters type bowler of gentle medium pace, who could break partnerships.

A handy cricketer but a great Captain.
